Client Spotlight: A Cleaner World

The service industry isn't known to provide extraordinary benefits to its workers and involves difficult manual labor. The owners and employees at A Cleaner World in Roanoke are no strangers to hard work. Mike Taylor, the business owner, began working in the industry at 18. He became the owner in 1981 and later opened another location in Roanoke.

Mike said, " I am very proud my career has lasted 47 years. I persevered and provided for my family."

Below you will find a Q&A from our conversation with Mike!

Q: When did you start working at A Cleaner World?

A: I was a high school kid looking for a job, and A Cleaner World hired me in 1976! I didn't want to go to college, so I started working out of high school.

Q: What was the process like becoming the manager and then owner?

A: I started as a regular staff member, and in 1981, someone new bought the business. They needed to hire a manager, and I interviewed for the job at a very young age. I had around three weeks of training before I managed on my own.

Q: Can you walk me through your decision to provide benefits to your employees?

A: My wife and I made the decision as business owners that we wanted to create a good atmosphere at work. As a business, we believe in treating people well. We knew that providing benefits was the right thing to do! We started providing a 401K for around ten employees. Once we grew to twenty employees, we provided health insurance.

Q: Can you describe your philosophy of how to treat employees?

A: I believe in a comfortable and safe work atmosphere for employees. We have the least amount of turnover in the franchise.  

Q: What advice would you give to new business owners?

A: RUN! Just kidding! I have a quote I would like to share as advice, and it is from Casey Kasem. "Reach for the stars, but keep your feet on the ground."

Q: How has your experience with Muneris Benefits been?

A: We have worked with Burman for over 25 years. We have made many changes to our benefits, and he has been there every step of the way. I am now transitioning to Medicare, and I couldn't think of anyone better than Burman. He has made my business benefits and personal Medicare benefits so easy.
